Always read the Grant eligibility and requirements carefully. Complete all relevant parts of the application form.

• Individuals may apply for grants up to $10,000; Companies may apply for grants up to $50,000.
• Projects may be in any of a wide range of forms in the performing arts, including theatre, opera, puppetry, dance and music.
• Applicants may also apply for financial assistance to cover training and attendance at conferences.
•  Applications will only be accepted for projects that occur in the calendar year 1 January-31 December 2027.
• Successful applicants will receive grant monies as an electronic bank transfer to a designated account within one week of notification.
• Successful applicants must acknowledge the S,B&W Foundation’s support in all public engagement associated with the project
  (interview, social media, website etc) and, where practical, display the S,B&W Foundation logo.
• The Foundation welcomes further ideas from applicants as to how the Foundation’s financial support can further be acknowledged and highlighted, should their application be successful.
• Successful applicants must provide S,B&W Foundation with an acquittal of the Grant within eight weeks of the completion of the project.
  The acquittal package must include: a budget reconciliation, any media coverage, and a 500-word appraisal of how the project contributed to the Performing Arts in Australia (suitable for publication in the Foundation’s regular newsletter).
• An application for additional assistance, from an applicant who has previously been successful,  will not be considered until the S,B&W Foundation has received an acquittal of the previous project

Applications for assistance should be made for specific projects, productions or activities. The Foundation also welcomes applications for special projects additional to those covered by the core business funding programs.

Special projects may include:

• commissioning an original play or performance;
• professional workshops of an original play or performance;
• professional production of an original play or performance;
• assistance with international tours;
• appointment of eg. trainee directors;
• organising conferences of theatre practitioners;
• professional training activities;
• and such other projects as the Foundation Board may approve.

1. How do I apply for a S,B&W Foundation Grant?
   Any Australian Citizen may apply for the S,B&W Foundation Performing Arts Grants by using the online application form (include all requested information and  upload all relevant support documents.)
2. When can I apply for a grant?
   Applications are open from TBC 2027 and close TBC 2027.
3. What is the deadline for applications?
   Closing time & date for submissions in 2027 TBC. No applications will be accepted after this date.
4. Whom do I contact if I’m having trouble completing or submitting my application?

5. Who assesses and approves the applications?
   All applications are assessed against the criteria by a panel of industry professions.
6. Does the S,B&W Foundation Performing Arts Grants Panel provide feedback if an application is unsuccessful?
   Unfortunately, the Panel does not provide feedback.
7. Can I appeal the decision in relation to the outcome of the application process?
   No correspondence will be entered into with unsuccessful applicants after the Foundation Board has ratified the Grants Panel’s recommendations.
8. I don’t have an ABN, can I apply for a grant?
   Yes, individuals without an ABN may apply for S,B&W Foundation Performing Arts Grants. Those applying for Company Grants must provide proof of incorporation, including an ABN.
9. My organisation receives National and State Triennial Funding. Am I still eligible to apply for the S,B&W Foundation Performing Arts Grant ?
   Yes. However, consideration will also be given to projects that sit outside core program funding.
10. If there are two or more writers engaged collaboratively in a project, do we apply as an ‘Individual’ or a ‘Group’?
    As far as collaborations (2 or more creatives) are concerned, only one individual should make the application on behalf the the creative team. Please include the names of all collaborators, their bona fides and contribution to the project in Attachment 1. Applicant CV or Company overview [Not to exceed two A4 pages].
11. Does the project have to occur in Australia?
    While projects that directly contribute to the Australian Performing Arts Industry are seen as competitive, the S,B&W Foundation Performing Arts Grants Panel also recognises the benefit of overseas travel for individuals to study or gain professional experience abroad.
12. Should I include letters of support with the application?
    Select letters of support for your project may be included if they directly address the project under consideration. Please include letters of support in Attachment 2. 2. Application support document [all material to be compiled as one PDF document (including any hyperlinks to a maximum of three items); and not to exceed four A4 pages]
13. Can the project be undertaken over two or more years?
    The project must normally be undertaken and completed in the following calendar year.
14. How long is the review and selection process? If successful, when will I be notified?
    Following the closing of submissions, the review and selection process takes approximately six weeks. The Panel’s recommendations will then be submitted to the Board of the S,B&W Foundation for consideration and ratification. The successful Grant recipients will receive private notification concurrently. This information will be embargoed until late November of the current year when a public announcement will be made by the Foundation President at the Foundation’s major, end-of-year Christmas event.
15. When will I, or my organisation, receive payment? How?
    Once the successful applicant has communicated with the S,B&W Foundation office in response to notification, payment in full will be made via bank transfer (once back account details are provided).
16. Does the grant money include GST?
    The grant allocation is not inclusive of GST. Successful applicants are responsible for their own tax obligations.
17. What are the reporting requirements for the S,B&W Foundation Performing Arts Grant?

18. What obligations does a successful grant applicant owe the S,B&W Foundation?
    Successful applicants must acknowledge  the S,B&W Foundation Performing Arts Grant in all reference to the successful project (in media, posters and flyers, programs or on individual CV’s) using the words ‘This Project is facilitated by an S,B&W Foundation  Performing Arts Grant’ and, where practical, display the S,B&W Foundation’s logo.
